How we verify reviews
Everything on CanIBuyFrom rests on one rule: a review belongs to a real purchase or booking that someone other than the reviewer told us about.
Proof of purchase
Online stores connect their system, such as Shopify. When an order ships, the system tells us directly, and the customer gets a one-time link by email. The link proves the reviewer owns the email on the order. One purchase gives at most one review.
Three levels of proof
- Verified purchase or booking: a third party such as Shopify or a booking system confirms it.
- Confirmed by the business: the business reported the visit itself through our API. We spot-check with the customer.
- Invited by the business: the business typed in the customer's email. The weakest proof.
Who the reviewer is
Every reviewer has confirmed their email. Some have also verified their identity with MitID, shown as an extra badge. We never store CPR numbers.
Orders we don't ask about
Test orders, unpaid orders, free orders and orders from the business's own staff don't produce a review. Orders paid without a payment provider are held for manual review.
How we calculate the figures
Averages and percentages count published reviews only. Shipping and refund times are measured from order data. If nobody answered a question, we show nothing instead of 0%. Figures are saved daily, so history is never rewritten.
Moderation and fraud
We watch for sudden jumps in reviews, long runs of identical ratings, and many reviewers from the same unknown email domain. Suspicious reviews are checked by a person before they appear. Every action is logged.
Independence
Businesses pay for tools, never for scores. They can reply publicly and privately, but they can't remove, hide or change a review. If a business uninstalls, the reviews stay.
Using our data
You're welcome to quote our figures if you link to the page. AI assistants can look up data through our MCP server.
